EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE

STARTING WITH THE GREATEST NAME OF ALLAH(SWT) WHO IS THE MASTER OF SUPREME INTELLIGENCE 

Topic for today is deeply concerned with Psychology. I would try my best to elaborate the topic psychologically to understand the basics.
Objective:-
The objective of explaining today’s topic is to know, control of emotions and to develop interpersonal relationships.
Emotional Intelligence (EQ or EI) is a term created by two researchers – Peter Salavoy and John Mayer – and popularized by Dan Goleman in his 1996 book of the same name.
Let me define the term Emotional intelligence;
The capacity to be aware of, control, and express one’s emotions, and to handle interpersonal relationships judiciously and em pathetically.
“Emotional intelligence is the key to both personal and professional success.”
There are five components of Emotional intelligence which are given under-mentioned; According to Daniel Goleman, an American psychologist who helped to popularize emotional intelligence, there are five key elements to it:
  • Self-awareness
  • Self-regulations
  • Motivation
  • Empathy
  • Social Skills.
In Emotional intelligence, the first quality or characteristic is Self-awareness. The detail of first quality of Emotional intelligence is given below:

SELF-AWARENESS

SELF-AWARENESS

People with high Emotional Intelligence understand their emotions and they don’t let their feelings rule them. They know their strengths and weaknesses, and they work on these areas so they can perform better. Nobody can Dennie from the importance of self-knowing or self-awareness. So let me discuss the first characteristic of Emotional intelligence according to Quran.
قُلِ انۡظُرُوۡا مَاذَا فِی السَّمٰوٰتِ وَ الۡاَرۡضِ ؕ وَ مَا تُغۡنِی الۡاٰیٰتُ وَ النُّذُرُ عَنۡ قَوۡمٍ لَّا یُؤۡمِنُوۡنَ  .
#surah 10 #Ayah 101 
Translation:
Say, “Observe what is in the heavens and earth.” But of no avail will be signs or earners to a people who do not believe .
From the above verse we can simply understand that if someone wants to be self aware he or she must think about the Universe and the things present in Universe.
If you’re self-aware, you always know how you feel, and you know how your emotions and your actions can affect the people around you. Being self-aware when you’re in a leadership position also means having a clear picture of your strengths and weaknesses  , and it means behaving with humility. Here another question rises that what would be the tips to improve self awareness.As From The Holy Quran the first one is KEEN OBSERVATION, another one is KEEP A JOURNAL which will help you to improve your self-awareness. If you spend just a few minutes each day writing down your thoughts, this can move you to a higher degree of self-awareness.
The last but not the least tip to improve self-awareness is SLOW DOWN.When you experience anger or other strong emotions, slow down to examine why?
 Remember, no matter what the situation, you can always choose how you react to it.
Always ask yourself why I am doing?
What will be the consequences? 
When you will ask such sort of questions you will be able to control your strong emotion and at the end of the day one will reach to the stage of self-awareness.

SELF-REGULATION

You often have little control over when you experience emotions. You can, however, have some say in how long an emotion will last by using a number of techniques to alleviate negative emotions such as anger, anxiety or depression. A few of these techniques include recasting a situation in a more positive light, taking a long walk and meditation or prayer. Self-regulation involves the following:
 Self-control:-
 Managing disruptive impulses.
***Trustworthiness:- Maintaining standards of honesty and integrity.
***Consciousness:-   Taking responsibility for your own performance.
***Adaptability:-       Handling change with flexibility.
***Innovation:-          Being open to new ideas.
From self-regulation the above all points are very important but as for as second point that is Trustworthiness is concerned,it is explained from the Holy Quran which is under-mentioned
وَ اِنۡ کُنۡتُمۡ عَلٰی سَفَرٍ وَّ لَمۡ تَجِدُوۡا کَاتِبًا فَرِہٰنٌ مَّقۡبُوۡضَۃٌ ؕ فَاِنۡ اَمِنَ بَعۡضُکُمۡ بَعۡضًا فَلۡیُؤَدِّ الَّذِی اؤۡتُمِنَ اَمَانَتَہٗ وَ لۡیَتَّقِ اللّٰہَ رَبَّہٗ ؕ وَ لَا تَکۡتُمُوا الشَّہَادَۃَ ؕ وَ مَنۡ یَّکۡتُمۡہَا فَاِنَّہٗۤ اٰثِمٌ قَلۡبُہٗ ؕ وَ اللّٰہُ بِمَا تَعۡمَلُوۡنَ عَلِیۡمٌ ﴿۲۸۳)
Translation:
“And if you are on a journey and cannot find a scribe, then a security deposit [should be] taken. And if one of you entrusts another, then let him who is entrusted discharge his trust [faithfully] and let him fear Allah , his Lord. And do not conceal testimony, for whoever conceals it – his heart is indeed sinful, and Allah is Knowing of what you do”. 
As for as consciousness is concerned The Holy Quran says:
نُسَارِعُ  لَہُمۡ فِی الۡخَیۡرٰتِ ؕ بَلۡ لَّا یَشۡعُرُوۡنَ ﴿۵۶﴾
Translation:
“Is [because] We hasten for them good things? Rather, they do not perceive”.
The third point which is very important given below;

MOTIVATION

Self-motivated people work consistently toward their goals, and they have extremely high standards for the quality of their work.Question rises here how can one improve Motivation.
First ask yourself why are you doing your job? 
 It’s easy to forget what you really love about your career. So, take some time to remember why you wanted this job. If you’re unhappy in your role and you’re struggling to remember why you wanted it, try the Five Whys   technique to find the root of the problem. Starting at the root often helps you look at your situation in a new way. And make sure that your goal statements are fresh and energising and achievable.
Another most important thing again ask yourself where you stand?
The third question to be Motivated is where I want to go?
And the last but not the least 
Why I am doing all these?
These are some sort of questions which can be Motivational for someone.
Let me jump to the fourth one.

EMPATHY

For leaders, having empathy is critical to managing a successful team or organization. Leaders with empathy have the ability to put themselves in someone Else’s situation. They help develop the people on their team, challenge others who are acting unfairly, give constructive feedback, and listen to those who need it.
If you want to earn the respect and loyalty of your team, then show them you care by being empathic.

Tips to improve Empathy

***Put yourself in someone Else’s position: 
 It’s easy to support your own point of view. After all, it’s yours! But take the time to look at situations from other people’s perspectives. 
***Pay attention to body language:
 Perhaps when you listen to someone, you cross your arms, move your feet back and forth, or bite your lip. This body language tells others how you really feel about a situation, and the message you’re giving isn’t positive! Learning to read body language can be a real asset in a leadership role, because you’ll be better able to determine how someone truly feels. This gives you the opportunity to respond appropriately.
***Respond to feelings;
You ask your assistant to work late again. And although he agrees, you can hear the disappointment in his voice. So, respond by addressing his feelings. Tell him you appreciate how willing he is to work extra hours, and that you’re just as frustrated about working late. If possible, figure out a way for future late nights to be less of an issue.
The fifth one is,

SOCIAL SKILLS

Leaders who do well in the social skills element of emotional intelligence are great communicators. They’re just as open to hearing bad news as good news, and they’re expert at getting their team to support them and be excited about a new mission or project.
Leaders who have good social skills are also good at managing change and resolving conflicts diplomatically. They’re rarely satisfied with leaving things as they are, but they don’t sit back and make everyone else do the work: they set an example with their own behaviour.
Tips to be the master of Social Skills;
***Learn conflict resolution:
 Leaders must know how to resolve conflicts between their team members, customers, or vendors. Learning conflict resolution  skills is vital if you want to succeed.
***Improve your communication skills:
 How well do you communicate? 
How can you better communicate?
***Learn how to praise others:
 As a leader, you can inspire the loyalty of your team simply by giving praise,when it’s earned. Learning how to praise others is a fine art, but well worth the effort.
On doing work on the above all mentioned points one can be the best in his or her activities so it is my suggestion to every aged group that work out on your emotional intelligence. In emotional intelligence you can simply understand and qualify yourself in self-control, self-regulation, motivation, empathy and social skills.
